Bandon Dunes

OK I already reviewed Pacific Dunes here. Once I write up the other’s here I will update them and add links as well. If you want to check off four (and now five with Sheep’s Ranch) top 100 golf courses in one shot, this is the only resort I know where you can do that. It’s pretty arbitrary that I ranked Bandon below Pacific. I guess the cliff-front wow factor is a shade better there than the wow factor at Bandon but I mean you are really splitting hairs. Bandon is awesome.
Above is the first. Not sure if the designer, Kidd, was thinking about Pebble, but this course builds up like Pebble (and just like the third there the approach on three is the first view you get of the Pacific). One is a great set-up hole to ease you into the round but unlike Pebble you don’t have trees and the resort rooms blocking your view of the horizon. Two’s a nice par three with scrubbish all around. Then three crests a hill and POW you’re looking smack into the Pacific (the below photo with the caddie is the approach after you crest the hill).
The ocean-front holes here are all fantastic and the entire course reeks of Scottish or Irish links unlike Pebble or even Cape Kidnappers. 16 is my favorite hole on the course and is one of the best golf holes period. Maybe I’ll do a write up of the best 18 holes once I get caught up on course reviews.
After the round we hung on the back patio and watched the sunset while enjoying Miller Lites. Honestly, I could retire here except my wife would go buggy as this is golf, golf, golf with a side of golf. Not much to do for non golfers. Also, the write-up is pretty short because I do have a lot of images from here and will let the photos tell the story. Don’t let my buddy Donnie’s cow-print pants on nine distract you.
